In the vast majority of cases, we advise these business owners not to build an app.
Building an app is significantly more expensive than building a website. If you build one for the wrong reasons, you will waste millions of Naira on software that nobody ever downloads.
How do you know if you are making a mistake? Here is the honest test to figure out if your business genuinely needs an app, or if you just need a better mobile website.
The problem of "Install Friction"
When you have a website, discovering your business is easy. A customer clicks a link on Google, WhatsApp, or Instagram, and the website opens instantly in their browser.
When you have an app, you introduce massive friction. A customer clicks a link, is redirected to the App Store or Google Play Store, has to wait for a 40-megabyte file to download, install the software, open it, and then create an account.
In Nigeria, where mobile data is metered and expensive, and where many users have limited storage space on their phones, people simply will not download a 40MB app just to read your "About Us" page or buy a pair of shoes one time.

When do you genuinely need an app?
There are specific scenarios where a mobile website is not enough. If your business model fits into one of the four categories below, an app is a mandatory investment.
1. High-frequency, repeat usage
If your customers interact with your business every single day—like a banking platform, a ride-hailing service, or a daily fitness tracker—an app makes sense. An app stays logged in, lives on their home screen, and provides a faster daily experience than opening a browser tab.
2. You need offline functionality
A website requires a constant internet connection. An app can be built to work entirely offline and sync later. 3. You need device hardware
